Courage
"Mya, how are you?"
I stared, confused. Her demeanor spoke of determination.
"Something's been bugging me, Mya...," and Alexa kissed me, on the lips.
I couldn't react. I was overwhelmed with shock.
"Oh god...sorry." Embarrassment reddened her cheeks.
A childish grin stretched mine.
"It's about time."

Mind-Block (what i needed to say)
I can’t quite think of words
once I look into your glowing eyes.
I find myself bewildered by the
caramel goodness I see within them.
When I attempt to speak, I get
distracted by your great height.
I have to glance so far up, and
craning my neck takes away from my vocabulary.
If I were to manage conversation, I’m sure
that everything I’d say would be jibberish.
I get quite confuddled whenever you’re around,
so pardon my abundance of whimsy, flabbergastical, fantasmagical, nonsensical, brillig, frumious, jabber-wock words.
And if by some small miracle,
my brain formed letters into words
which made sentences
that had actual meaning,
I would speak of forever. I would ramble on about sunsets on rooftops, midnight park meetings, sneaking out of houses, and sharing time. But mostly, I'd speak of love.
And you would be right there,
listening.

dezi
a crowd of fascinated vultures gather
(some girl's having seizures)
police
(i think i know her!)
teachers swoop in from nowhere
(oh god, i know her)
heart
(look, she's turning blue!)
my insides gripped in turmoil
(wait, she's breathing)
life
(her color's coming back)
my heart begins anew
(she's gonna be alright)
Untitled Hope (revision)
A harsh cold pervades the landscape
covering the world with a layer of white,
hiding the once lush, vivid scenery
with its deep emptiness.
Every glimpse of warmth is
rebutted immediately by a cold
worse than before, leaving
my hope lesser than i had before,
presenting me with nothingness
in place of comfort.
Not even the most valiant
of efforts to keep the empty,
white snow away
have any luck at all. This is a
stubborn cold, that sets in deep
and chills its victims to the
very marrow of
their hollow bones.
And then.
A sudden change envelops my horizon,
washing away the white
with colors.
Ugly,
naked,
bare colors,
but colors none the less.
The white walls begin to seem less
imposing, less
impervious to the need for reform,
the need to escape the uniform white.
A new day has come.
Although there is still white in my view,
I feel as though
it's not so bad anymore.
Spring will come, and I
once again
will embrace the world with my smiles
and capri pants.

untitled hope (a time my world changed)

a poem.
scared and alone
we all felt the same
ripped away from the hands
of our protectors,
the ones we love
forced into a strange place
with bright lights and
lemon-scents
half the day we spent
scared, lonely, wanting safety
half a day for nine months
some grew close quickly,
bonding for protection
others drifted alone in the sea
of this strange new world
nine months passed this way
until the next year
the "first" year
where i noticed two faces
so much like mine, but different too
we gazed at eachother, cautious
gradually growing acceptance
growing into something amazing
that was when my world changed.

It's Hard To Say (edited)
MARIE
[playing with a ring on her finger]
Are you absolutely sure that your mom won't come home early? I don't want her to catch me here again.
COLBY
Know what?
MARIE
Hmm?
COLBY
You're too paranoid. Calm down already.
MARIE
Shut up! I just don't want to get you in trouble.
COLBY
[sarcastically] Aww, you're such a sweetheart!
MARIE
[gets up, walks toward window. She should end up facing away from COLBY]
And you're an ass! Why do i even hang out with you?
COLBY
[feigning concern]
I dunno. You know, why does anyone hang out with me?
MARIE
[faces COLBY again]
[smirking] Probably cause it's just a huge ego boost.
COLBY
[makes an exaggerated sad face]
Do you really think that's the reason?
MARIE
Don't even give me that look.
COLBY
[pretends to cry]
MARIE
[loud sigh] Idiot. [MARIE holds her arms out for COLBY to come hug her. The two stay together for a second too long, then break apart and look awkwardly away from each other.]
COLBY
So how's that-
MARIE
What's up with-
[both laugh nervously. MARIE begins to play with her ring again. They sit back down on the bed, further apart than before. They sit for a while, not speaking.]
COLBY
[quietly] So...how's your boyfriend doing?
MARIE
[appears distraught]
Oh, um, he's okay, I guess.
COLBY
[dispassiontely] Just okay? Why just okay?
MARIE
Well, he's fine. I'm just... annoyed with him.
COLBY
[Gaining interest, but tries to look casual] For why?
MARIE
Cuz, i heard from some people-
COLBY
Who heard from some people...
[MARIE shoots COLBY a dirty look]
MARIE
[Stammering] Alright, MY FRIENDS told me he's been... around lately. They even said maybe... cheating on me? So, I asked him about it and he... [sigh] He told me he has this... friend that he likes to mess around with. He said that he'd been fooling around with her last week.
COLBY
[stands, clearly upset]
Are you kidding me? That's bulls**it! [sits back down] Why are you sill with this guy? He's obviously scum who needs his ass kicked.
MARIE
[snorts] And who's gonna do it? You?
[Characters pause to show the importance of the answer.]
COLBY
Maybe... I will. Someone's gotta teach this guy a lesson. [smiling] I'll probably get my posse together tonight, bring him down to the river, maybe give him a nice pair of cement shoes?
MARIE
[also smiling] While you're at it, maybe you should give him a make over first? He'd look nice with some black and blue around he eyes, do some dental work, ya know?
COLBY
When I'm done with him, nobody will recognize..., or see..., him again!
MARIE
[frowning] Yeah, I'm so sure.
COLBY
[serious again] But really. You don't need to put up with this. You deserve better.
MARIE
[quietly] Let's not talk about this anymore, okay?
COLBY
[just as quiet] I just want better things for you..
MARIE
[louder now] Well thanks.
COLBY
[still quiet] I mean it Marie. Cause, you know.... I really-
MARIE
I'll figure things out.
COLBY
[pauses] Hah. You, figuring something out? That's a laugh!
MARIE
You are such a jerk. Seriously; I'm gonna kill you.
COLBY
LIE! You love me too much to kill me!
MARIE
Only in your dreams!
COLBY
Like I'd dream about someone as ugly as you! Ha! If anything, I'd dream about putting a bag over your head so I wouldn't have to see your face!
MARIE
...Did you really just say that?
COLBY
[laughing] Yeah? Why, are you shocked that I actually admitted it out loud?
MARIE
Wow. You are such a dick. And you say that my boyfriend's bad? You just wait, I'll-
[a loud noise like a door opening and closing comes from offstage. COLBY and MARIE both jump]
COLBY'S MOM
Colby? I'm home!
MARIE
[In a fierce whisper]See? Didn't I tell you about your mom? [scrambles to get her things]
COLBY
What good is it to be right about bad things? Out the window!
[MARIE continues to pick up her things. As she begins to climb out the window, she stops and turns to face COLBY.]
MARIE
Colby, I-
COLBY
[Looking directly at MARIE] Hey Marie...? I love you. See you tomorrow?
COBLY'S MOM
[from offstage] Colby? Are you here?
MARIE
[looks confused, but slowly begins to smile] Yeah... I'll see you tomorrow Colby.
[blackout]
